About the Department

The Department of Linguistics was established in 2010. The department consists of two main branches as General Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. The Department of Linguistics aims to train qualified linguists who can approach language from a scientific point of view. In this regard they can conduct both theoretical and practical research being aware of the interaction between language and thinking. Considering the education that the department offers in Turkish and advanced English at an effective level, the students can serve in various units of the society. The purpose of the Department of Linguistics is to contribute to the national and international academic community by conducting multi-faceted scientific research, as well as raising productive and innovative individuals with high-level thinking skills, observing scientific, ethical and universal values. The study field of the Department of Linguistics is quite wide and comprehensive. In this sense what the language is, how it works, how the general features and differences between languages ​​are coded are among the study areas of the department. In addition, the relationship between language, society and culture, acquiring the mother tongue, learning and using other languages ​​are also among the working areas of the Linguistics Department.
