Theories of Social Work
This course aims to teach the theoretical foundations and principles of practice in accordance with the generalist social work approach and to help students apply these in practice.
The Department of Social Work provides professional education that is grounded in scientific knowledge, practice-oriented, and committed to human rights and ethical values, with the aim of enhancing the psychosocial well-being of individuals, families, groups, and communities. The department adopts a person-centered approach and aims to train social work professionals who contribute to solving the social, economic, and cultural problems affecting society.
During the four-year education program, students are equipped with foundational social science courses such as sociology, psychology, psychiatric social work, economics, and law, alongside professional courses including social work theories, disaster social work, human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policies, child neglect and abuse, creative drama, gerontology, addiction, medical social work, forensic social work, and social work practice with individuals, families, groups, and communities. The curriculum is designed to include both theoretical and practical courses, aligned with the standards of international schools of social work and tailored to address the current needs of the country.
The Department of Social Work aims to educate professionals who are committed to universal values such as social justice, equality of opportunity, peace, and equity; who possess strong communication skills; who are capable of critical thinking; and who are sensitive to social issues.

Social work interviews differ from those in other professional fields due to their unique nature. This course aims to teach the principles, techniques, and skills of professional interviewing specific to social work practice.
The course is designed to provide students with knowledge, skills, and awareness regarding institutions and organizations that provide social services, and to enable them to evaluate social work practices within these settings.
The course covers the relationship between social work, social policy, and planning. It aims to provide students with an understanding of the main topics, tools, goals, and historical development of these disciplines, and their significance for social work practice.
This course focuses on understanding human behavior and development within social systems through major theories from the social sciences.
This course introduces key concepts and theoretical approaches to understanding social problems. It focuses on analyzing various social issues both globally and in Turkey, and on developing proposals for addressing the dynamics underlying these problems.
