Department of Basic Sciences

The Department of Basic Sciences, operating within the Faculty of Engineering, adopts an integrative approach to physics, chemistry, mathematics and related foundational disciplines, with the aim of cultivating engineering students’ abilities in analytical thinking, creative problem-solving and the application of the scientific method. Through the core courses offered during the early years of the undergraduate curriculum, our department contributes to the construction of the conceptual framework required across a variety of engineering programs. In this context, students engage in laboratory work and contemporary case studies designed to connect abstract theoretical concepts to real-world applications.

Our academic staff comprises experts in their respective fields who emphasize research and interdisciplinary collaboration. While remaining abreast of technological advances across the various branches of engineering, our instructors guide students in critically assessing these developments. In doing so, the Department of Basic Sciences strategically enhances engineering education by preparing tomorrow’s engineers to be scientifically grounded, innovative, productive and capable of delivering sustainable solutions.
