Graduates of our department are eligible for appointment to various institutions under the Ministry of National Education, including special education schools that serve children with intellectual disabilities, primary, secondary, and high schools with special education classrooms, and Guidance and Research Centers. They can also be appointed to institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies. In addition to public sector employment, graduates may work in private special education institutions or establish their own centers.

Our department offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. The academic staff includes 1 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors (Dr.), 2 Lecturers (Dr.), and 5 Research Assistants, all of whom are currently pursuing graduate studies. The department serves approximately 810 undergraduate students, 110 master’s students, and 22 doctoral students.

The vision of the Department of Special Education at Necmettin Erbakan University is to contribute to the field through both theoretical and practical studies, while developing effective solutions for the education and independent living of individuals with special needs. The department aims to train teachers who are committed to enabling individuals with special needs to become independent, productive, and active participants in society, both in Turkey and around the world.

In pursuit of this vision, the department has adopted the following mission:

  1. To train teachers who conduct scientific research and publications, understand individual differences, support the holistic development of cognitive and social skills, and adhere to professional ethics.
  2. To equip prospective teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to help individuals with special needs acquire independent living skills.
  3. To provide support services that promote the development of children with special needs.
  4. To address the needs of families of children with special needs and provide them with guidance and support.
  5. To promote concepts of social equality, ensuring that all individuals feel included as part of the social fabric of society, including those with special needs and their families.
  6. To establish a contemporary culture of teaching that produces teachers who are professionally competent and respectful of societal and ethical values.

Additionally, through its graduate programs, the department aims to cultivate expert academics who conduct research and projects in the field, and who contribute to teacher training efforts. Within this framework, dozens of national and international projects have been successfully completed. The department is committed to training highly qualified educators for the field of special education, and to generating, advancing, and disseminating new knowledge, theories, and research.
