Professor ONDER TURKMEN

Professor Önder Türkmen was born in 1967 in the Selendi district of Manisa province. He completed his primary and secondary education in Uşak. He completed his high school education in Burdur Imam Hatip High School in 1984 and completed his undergraduate education at Atatürk University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture in 1988. He worked as a Research Assistant in the Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture in 1989-1998 and worked as an assistant professor in the same department between 1998-2006. He completed his MSc.in 1991 and his Ph.D. in 1998 at the same University.
He has served as Associate Professor at Selcuk University between 2006-2011, and he has continued his work as Professor since 2011. He served as Head of the Horticulture Department and Head of the Vegetable Growing and Breeding Department. He concentrated his academic studies mainly on vegetable breeding. Many vegetable varieties have been developed from his studies and are commercially produced by different companies. There is a total of thirty-four master and doctoral theses completed under his advisory.
He has presented more than two hundred scientific studies (including more than 30 SCI articles) in international-national journals and scientific meetings. He authored international book chapters in his research fields. He has been a member of organizing committees, science and advisory boards or congress-symposium president in national and international congresses and symposiums. He has taken part in many scientific projects as a researcher, advisor, or project manager. He is married and has four children.
